President Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the government's commitment to a compassionate, accessible and fair mental health care system in a World Mental Health Day message on social media.

He said efforts will be guided by the experiences of people who use mental health services and tailored to Maldivians, with an emphasis on prevention, early intervention and quality treatment.

The government is advancing this through the Mental Health Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029. Planned reforms include a National Mental Health Policy and a comprehensive Mental Health Act, folding mental health into primary care, strengthening regional and specialist services, and improving tele-mental health and crisis response.
