Remarks by Eagle Hills chairman Mohamed Alabbar about Gaza have drawn criticism on social media in the Maldives.
In a social media interview, he said Eagle Hills has no part in rebuilding Gaza and that nobody had consulted him on it. He said those responsible for destruction should bear the cost of compensating losses, while treating humanitarian aid as a separate matter, and that his main goal now is profit for shareholders.
Asked whether Israel should pay to rebuild Gaza, he did not answer directly, according to the report. The comments were noticed in the Maldives because Eagle Hills holds a 99-year deal for land at Rasmalé, and many people have called for the terms to be made public.
