The Male’ City Council has expressed support for a growing public movement calling for scrutiny of the Rasmale’ land development deal involving Eagle Hills.
Councillors said the agreement, which covers a significant land area for a major residential and commercial project, requires clearer public disclosure of its financial terms and long-term implications for the state.
Opposition figures and civil society groups have questioned whether the deal delivers adequate benefit to the Maldives and have called for a review or referendum. Several MDP National Council members have also sought an internal party discussion on the project.
The government has maintained that the project will generate investment and economic activity. However, critics, including former officials, argue that constitutional and land-ownership aspects need careful examination.
The council’s position adds to political pressure surrounding the agreement as public debate continues.
