The Maldives Meteorological Service says the stormy weather affecting the country will continue until Sunday, 11 October. One line of its forecast extends it to Monday morning.

Heavy rain and strong winds are being felt in several areas, including Malé. Winds are expected from the south and southwest, and waves of two to four feet are forecast in the atolls. People travelling by sea were urged to take special care.

The National Disaster Management Authority asked for flood-prevention measures, and agencies have been placing sandbags to keep water out of homes, shops and offices. Once the storm passes, some islands may see the effects of a swell.
