The Maldives Meteorological Service upgraded a yellow alert to orange for heavy rain and flooding between Kaafu and Vaavu atolls.

The orange warning was issued after rainfall intensified, with forecasts of up to 90 mm in one hour or 120 mm in six hours. Heavy rain has already caused flooding in parts of Male City, where MNDF Fire and Rescue teams deployed pumps at multiple locations.

Earlier yellow alerts had warned of thunderstorms, heavy rain and winds up to 45 mph. Authorities advised seafarers of rough seas over the coming days, particularly in northern and central atolls.
