The government has indicated that a tax offset arrangement for businesses will be finalised once it completes payments owed to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority.

The mechanism is intended to allow companies to offset certain tax liabilities against amounts the state itself owes them. Delays in settling government obligations to MIRA have held up the full implementation of the scheme.

Business groups have sought clarity on the process, particularly for firms involved in large contracts with the public sector. Revenue officials said the offset rules will be published once the outstanding amounts are reconciled and paid.

The issue forms part of broader efforts to improve cash-flow management between the government and private contractors. Similar arrangements have been used in the past but have sometimes faced administrative delays.

Companies are advised to continue filing returns as normal while the final details are confirmed. MIRA has stated that standard collection procedures remain in force until the offset framework is formally activated.
