Maldives Police Service has taken part in an international anti-scam operation led by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior, resulting in 17 arrests and the recovery of more than MVR 3.1 million.

The Anti-Scam Centre of the Maldives Police Service joined “Operation Confrontation Ghost”. Authorities said the funds recovered belonged to members of the public who had been defrauded. Further details of individual cases and the nationalities of those arrested have not been released.

Separately, the police service has signed the International Association of Chiefs of Police resolution aimed at combating cross-border scams. The move is intended to strengthen cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies on financial crime and online fraud.

Scam-related losses have been a growing concern in the Maldives, with police regularly warning the public about fraudulent investment schemes, romance scams and impersonation of officials. The recent operation is one of the larger coordinated efforts reported this year.
