Police have arrested four Bangladeshi nationals in connection with the smuggling of approximately 6 kilograms of drugs.
The arrests followed an operation in which the consignment was intercepted before it could be distributed. Authorities said the case is under further investigation and additional details will be released as inquiries progress.
Drug trafficking remains a persistent challenge for Maldivian law enforcement, with regular seizures involving both local and foreign suspects. Recent months have seen several high-profile arrests linked to organised networks.
The Maldives Police Service has increased cooperation with regional partners on anti-smuggling efforts. The latest case adds to a series of successful interceptions reported by the force this year.
Courts have imposed lengthy sentences in comparable cases once evidence is presented. The four suspects are expected to be produced before a magistrate for remand while investigations continue.
