Former Bileydhoo MP Ahmed Haleem says work on the Magoodhoo airport in Faafu Atoll has stopped, a year after President Mohamed Muizzu promised to finish it within 12 months.
Muizzu made the pledge on a visit to the island on 21 September 2025. The deadline has passed without completion. Haleem, speaking about a project begun under the previous Maldivian Democratic Party government, said it was about 70 percent complete when that government left office. By his account the control tower is finished, the terminal is 60 percent done and about two-thirds of the 1,800-metre runway has its stone base laid.
He estimated about six months of work would finish it, said it was financed through external investment rather than government funds, and said more than MVR 200 million has been spent. He added that only grass clearing, by MTCC, is under way now.
The report does not include a response from the government. These figures are Haleem's and were not independently confirmed.
