A newly installed generator set has improved electricity services on Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, according to STELCO.
The utility said the additional capacity will support the island’s development and reduce interruptions for residents and businesses. The new unit addresses peak demand and provides backup while other generators undergo maintenance.
Island power systems in the Maldives often operate near capacity during peak tourist seasons or when demand grows from new housing and commercial activity. Adding a generator set allows continuous supply even if one unit is offline.
STELCO has been upgrading generation capacity on several islands under its network as part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure. Residents of Hoarafushi are expected to see more stable power once the unit is fully integrated into the grid.
The upgrade is one of several recent investments in outer-island electricity networks aimed at matching growing demand.
