EyeCare Maldives has announced a medical collaboration with India's renowned Chaithanya Eye Hospital to host a specialized visiting clinic in Malé, providing local patients with direct access to advanced ophthalmological evaluations and surgical consultations.

The initiative brings senior corneal and vitreoretinal surgeons to the capital, enabling patients suffering from complex visual disorders to obtain specialist opinions without undertaking overseas medical travel.

Clinical scope and specialist care

According to EyeCare, the visiting specialists will conduct comprehensive evaluations for advanced eye conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, corneal dystrophies, pediatric eye disorders, and complex glaucoma presentations requiring laser or microsurgical interventions.

The clinic aims to bridge a critical diagnostic gap for patients who would otherwise require medical referrals to clinics in India or Sri Lanka:

"By partnering with experienced ophthalmologists from Chaithanya Eye Hospital, we are facilitating early detection and cutting-edge management of sight-threatening eye conditions right here in the Maldives," an EyeCare representative explained.

The practice indicated that patients diagnosed with conditions requiring specialized interventions can undergo pre-operative assessments and post-surgical follow-ups locally under the collaborative framework.

Ongoing healthcare accessibility

EyeCare stated that appointment registrations are now open for the visiting clinic, which will operate out of its primary eye diagnostic centre in Malé. The provider emphasized that expanding access to visiting subspecialists aligns with its long-standing corporate mission to deliver comprehensive, affordable optical and ophthalmic care across the island nation.

Health sector observers note that visiting clinical collaborations significantly reduce the financial and logistical burden on national health insurance schemes and family budgets by minimizing overseas medical evacuation for non-emergency diagnostic reviews.
