Americans are voting in midterm elections that will determine control of Congress midway through President Donald Trump’s second term.

Concerns over rising prices and the ongoing conflict involving Iran have contributed to voter dissatisfaction. Democrats are seeking to capitalise on soft approval ratings for the president and economic pressures.

Polls indicate Trump’s job approval stands near 35 percent, with even lower ratings on economic management. Republicans aim to hold the Senate and limit losses in the House, while Democrats need modest gains to claim majorities in either chamber.

More than 57 million people had already cast ballots by election day. Outcomes in key Senate races in North Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, and Alaska are expected to be closely watched, alongside gubernatorial contests in 36 states.

A shift in congressional control could lead to increased oversight of the administration and potential investigations. Trump has campaigned heavily in competitive states and framed the vote as a personal referendum.
