Ryanair has reported a decline in profit margin to six percent after fuel prices increased, according to the airline’s latest financial update.

The Irish carrier, which operates an extensive European network, said higher kerosene costs had eroded margins. Management indicated that ticket prices could be adjusted in response. Ryanair has previously maintained a policy of low fares supported by high aircraft utilisation and ancillary revenue.

While the Maldives is not a Ryanair destination, the carrier’s performance is often watched as a barometer of European leisure travel demand and fuel-cost pressures that can affect global aviation. Tourism arrivals to the Maldives from European markets remain sensitive to air-fare levels and economic conditions in source countries.

The airline did not provide a detailed breakdown of the fuel-cost increase in the summary figures released.
