Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the Maldives has stated that bilateral ties between the two countries come without political conditions.

The remarks underscore the traditionally close relationship that includes cooperation in education, defence training, health and trade. Pakistan has long hosted Maldivian students and medical trainees, and the two sides regularly exchange high-level visits.

The statement comes at a time of active diplomatic engagement by the Maldives with multiple partners. Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam recently met her Pakistani counterpart on the sidelines of CHOGM 2026.

Officials from both countries have highlighted opportunities to expand economic links, including in tourism and fisheries. The High Commissioner’s comments are consistent with previous Pakistani statements that support for Maldives is based on mutual respect and shared interests rather than external alignment.

No specific new agreements were announced in connection with the remarks.
