Iran's newly appointed Defence Minister has warned that any renewed military action by the United States against Iran would cause major losses for America and its partners in the region.
Mehdi Ahlaghi, who received a strong parliamentary vote of confidence, made the remarks after assuming the post. He stated that if the United States resumes hostilities, it should expect significant damage not only to its own interests but also to those of its regional partners.
Ahlaghi was appointed following the death of his predecessor in earlier strikes. He has a long career in Iran's defence industry, including leadership of the organisation responsible for missile and other weapons programmes. He has been subject to international sanctions over alleged involvement in nuclear and ballistic missile activities.
The appointment comes amid ongoing tensions and discussions over the Strait of Hormuz and regional security. Iranian officials have repeatedly said that any attack would be met with a firm response.
Ahlaghi emphasised the need for careful assessment of the regional environment and readiness for various scenarios while defending the country.
