A man convicted of involvement in the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis, 63, was found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the drive-by shooting on the Las Vegas Strip that killed Shakur. The sentencing took place in a Los Angeles court after Davis was convicted in August.
The case, which remained unsolved for nearly three decades, centred on an alleged revenge attack following an earlier altercation involving Shakur and associates of Davis. Despite the conviction, questions remain about the identity of the person who fired the fatal shots.
Shakur, who was 25 at the time, was a major figure in hip-hop and his death intensified the East Coast–West Coast rivalry of the era. Davis had previously indicated he would appeal the verdict.
The resolution of the long-running investigation has drawn renewed attention to one of the most high-profile unsolved murders in American music history.
