Maldives beat China by 10 wickets in T20 World Cup qualifier opener

Yoosuf Azyan took three wickets and then struck an unbeaten 52 as the Maldives reached 100 without loss.

Maldives opened their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2028 Asia Sub-Regional Qualifier B campaign with a 10-wicket win over China at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

China were bowled out for 96 in 16.3 overs. Vice-captain Yoosuf Azyan, the Player of the Match, took 3 for 33 and then made an unbeaten 52 off 33 balls. Mohamed Rishwan added 44 not out off 29, and the pair put on an unbroken 100, which the Maldives reached in 10.1 overs for two points.

Tharusha Kavinda took 2 for 11 and Ibrahim Rizan 2 for 7 with the ball, with Harsha Amarasinghe and Umar Adam taking a wicket each.

The Maldives next faced Singapore on Friday at Selangor Turf Club. They need a top-two finish in Group B to reach the Regional Finals.
