The Football Association of Maldives has granted membership to the football teams of Haa Alif Dhidhdhoo and Gaafu Dhaalu Gahdhoo.
The decision expands the list of clubs formally affiliated with the national association. Local sports outlets reported the admission on Friday without providing further details on the voting process or any conditions attached to the membership.
Dhidhdhoo currently compete in the Dhivehi Premier League, where they drew 2-2 with Club Eagles on Friday. Gahdhoo, from the south, have been active in lower divisions and regional competitions.
FAM membership allows clubs to participate in national competitions, access association resources and vote in certain association matters. The association has been working to broaden participation across the atolls.
No official statement from FAM had been published at the time of the local reports. The move comes during an active Premier League season in which several island-based teams are competing alongside established Malé clubs.
