The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms across the southern atolls.
The alert covers the area from Gaafu Alifu Atoll south to Addu City and is valid from 5:45 p.m. until 11:45 p.m. on 13 October. Forecasters expect periods of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder.
The service noted that the current spell of unsettled weather is linked to wind convergence producing cloud cover over the Maldives region. Several areas have already recorded significant rainfall in recent days, with Male’ earlier logging more than 65 mm in a 24-hour period.
Authorities have advised the public and those travelling by sea to take extra care while the alert remains in force. Similar white alerts have been issued for other parts of the country in recent days as the unsettled pattern continues.
