Two police officers were injured when the motorcycle they were riding was involved in a collision with a car in Hulhumalé on Friday.
Maldives Police Service said the accident occurred near Ameenee Avenue. The motorcycle, which had not left the road, collided with a car. Both officers on the motorcycle sustained injuries and were taken for treatment.
Police had not released details on the severity of the injuries or the circumstances that led to the collision by late afternoon. Video circulating on social media showed people assisting the officers at the scene, with one being placed on a stretcher and moved towards an ambulance.
The incident adds to the high number of road accidents recorded in the greater Malé area this year. Police data indicate that accidents remain among the most frequently reported cases, with more than 2,300 accidents logged so far in 2026.
Authorities have previously increased police presence on roads in an effort to reduce accidents. No charges or further findings had been announced at the time of reporting.
