Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in Maafushi on suspicion of running an illegal alcohol trade.
Officers seized 42 bottles of alcohol during a search of the residence of Nabeeh Abdul Rasheed. A court subsequently ordered him remanded for eight days while the investigation continues.
The operation is part of a wider crackdown on alcohol networks across the Maldives. Possession and sale of alcohol outside licensed tourist establishments remain strictly prohibited under local law.
Police have not disclosed whether further arrests or seizures are expected in connection with the case.
