Former MP Ali Hussain seeks reconsideration of the registrar’s decision on the challenge to the 99-year agreement.

Former MP Ali Hussain has asked the Supreme Court to review a registrar’s rejection of his petition challenging the Rasmale’ land deal.

The legal challenge seeks to nullify the 99-year agreement with a UAE firm, alleging violations of constitutional provisions on land leases and property rights. The registrar had previously declined to accept the case for further proceedings.

Hussain’s request asks the Supreme Court bench to reconsider that rejection and allow the matter to proceed. The petition raises questions about the terms of the large-scale development agreement involving Eagle Hills.

The Rasmale’ project has generated political and legal debate over transparency, lease duration and ownership arrangements. Government officials have defended the development as beneficial for housing and economic activity.

The Supreme Court will consider the application for review according to its procedures. Outcomes depend on the court’s assessment of the registrar’s decision and the underlying legal arguments.

The case remains one of several points of contention surrounding major foreign investment projects in the Maldives.
