Land reclamation has restarted in the Fushidhiggaru lagoon area designated for the Eagle Hills waterfront and marina development in Rasmalé.

Satellite imagery and vessel tracking show the Jan De Nul dredger Leiv Eiriksson operating on Site D, the largest parcel previously assigned to Indian contractor Mohan Mutha. Work on those sites had stalled for about a year.

A source told local media that the Housing Development Corporation and Maldives Airports Company Limited have been instructed to finish the remaining reclamation by the end of the year, with assurances of completion within two months.

Approximately 700 hectares of the roughly 1,000 hectares authorised under the environmental impact assessment have already been reclaimed. Southern sections are planned for residential use while the remainder is allocated for the Eagle Hills project.

China Harbour Engineering Company has completed work on one of its assigned sites, with another still pending. The overall Rasmalé project was launched in December 2023 with an initial eight-month target that was not met.
