The President of Jamiyyathul Salaf has stated that the Rasmale' project is an economic concept and not a scheme to settle people of other faiths in the Maldives.

The remarks address public concerns that have arisen over the involvement of foreign developers and provisions related to long-term residency. Religious and community groups have previously raised questions about the implications of large-scale foreign investment in reclaimed land.

The project involves the allocation of reclaimed land in Fushidhiggaru lagoon to Eagle Hills for a major waterfront and marina development. The government has described it as a transformative economic initiative expected to generate significant investment and employment.

The Salaf President's statement comes amid broader debate involving political parties, civil society movements and religious organisations. Officials have maintained that the project will be managed in accordance with national laws and the country's Islamic character.

Discussions on the project continue as the timeline for final agreements approaches.
