President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the administration’s aim to build a more resilient mental health system that detects illness early and provides accessible care.
Marking World Mental Health Day, he said the government is advancing the Mental Health Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029. Work includes formulating a National Mental Health Policy and a comprehensive Mental Health Act.
The president highlighted efforts to integrate mental health services into the public health system, strengthen regional and specialist care, and expand tele-mental health and emergency response capacity. He stressed a compassionate and equitable approach guided by the experiences of those who use the services.
The message emphasised prevention, early intervention and the need for services tailored to local needs. No new funding figures or implementation timelines were attached to the statement.
World Mental Health Day is observed annually on 10 October.
