President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said he is optimistic that a permanent solution can be found to visa problems affecting Maldivians living in Sri Lanka.
Speaking to members of the Maldivian community in Colombo during his recent state visit, the president described the issue as one of the administration's priorities. He said the matter received special attention in discussions with Sri Lankan authorities and that assurances were received from the leadership.
Many Maldivians reside in Sri Lanka for education, medical treatment and business. Visa restrictions and processing delays have been a recurring complaint among the community.
The president indicated that the talks aimed at establishing a lasting arrangement rather than temporary measures. No specific timeline or new agreement details were released after the visit.
The statement was made at a gathering attended by a large number of Maldivians in the capital. Further updates are expected once formal follow-up occurs between the two governments.
