Maldives Police Service has dismantled a major network involved in trading cannabis in Malé after recovering large quantities of the drug in coordinated raids.
Police said the operation targeted a building in the Maadhoo area of Maafanu district. Officers searched the first and fifth floors of the premises and found significant amounts of cannabis.
The raids formed part of ongoing efforts against drug trafficking networks operating in the capital. Police confirmed that the network was involved in the commercial distribution of cannabis across Malé.
Further details on arrests or the exact quantity seized have not yet been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
The Maldives maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on narcotics. Recent amendments to the Drugs Act have strengthened penalties for trafficking offences, including the possibility of life imprisonment for large-scale cases.
Police continue to conduct regular operations targeting both street-level dealing and larger organised networks.
