Police have arrested six people after raiding an apartment in Male’ that was operating as a drug cafe.
The operation uncovered substantial amounts of narcotics and cash. All six suspects tested positive for drugs. The Criminal Court ordered them remanded for 30 days while investigations continue.
Police said the apartment had been used to sell and consume intoxicating substances. The raid forms part of ongoing efforts against drug trafficking and street-level dealing in the capital.
In a separate incident, police arrested a man after a resident poured boiling water on another person in an attempt to force authorities to act against a suspected drug dealer causing public nuisance. The arrested man had been the subject of repeated complaints over several years.
Authorities said they are pursuing a legal resolution in that case. Drug-related enforcement remains a priority for police, with multiple operations reported in recent weeks across Male’ and Hulhumalé.
No further details on the quantities seized or the identities of the six suspects have been released.
