Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Azaan proposed examining how to extend health insurance more equitably across the Maldives.

The Public Accounts Committee of the People's Majlis has decided to study ways to provide health insurance more comprehensively across the Maldives.

The proposal came from Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Azaan during today's committee meeting and was seconded by Hulhumale South MP Dr Ahmed Shamheed. It was approved by members present.

Azaan noted that MPs receive health insurance under specific laws and that staff of various state institutions, including the Cabinet and courts, also receive coverage beyond Aasandha. He argued for a more balanced system that covers all citizens rather than limiting reforms to parliamentary insurance alone.

Dr Shamheed supported the move and suggested forming a subcommittee for a full review, highlighting potential savings if fewer people need to travel abroad for treatment.
