Parliament’s Economic Committee has cleared two of the three candidates nominated by President Mohamed Muizzu for the vacant post of Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority.
Ahmed Shafneez, currently Director General of Administration and Finance at MIRA, and Ahmed Mausoom both scored above 75 points in interviews held on 12 October. The committee decided by consensus to send both names to the full Majlis for a vote. The third nominee, Mariyam Jaidha, was considered disqualified.
The position has been vacant since July, when former deputy Fathimath Ameeza was promoted to Commissioner General of Taxation. President Muizzu submitted the shortlist of three candidates on 5 October after an open application process.
Under the Tax Administration Act, both the Commissioner General and the Deputy Commissioner General are appointed by the President with the approval of Parliament following public applications.
