Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit will help place trade relations between the two countries on a firmer footing.
The comments came during the Maldivian president’s official visit to Pakistan. Discussions between the leaders covered opportunities to expand commercial links across multiple sectors.
Earlier reports indicated that the two sides had explored raising bilateral trade volumes, with previous announcements referring to a target of USD 200 million over two years. Direct air services and greater cargo movement were among the practical measures discussed.
Pakistani officials also highlighted potential cooperation in tourism, with more Pakistani visitors expected once direct flights become regular. Both governments have expressed interest in deepening economic cooperation beyond traditional areas.
The visit has included business forums and meetings between private-sector representatives from the two countries.
