Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the Maldives, Vice Admiral (Retired) Faisal Lodhi, has said that his country’s relationship with the Maldives comes without conditions.
Speaking in an interview, Lodhi stressed that Pakistan does not expect its partners to limit their relations with other countries in exchange for support. He noted that the Maldives maintains relations with both Pakistan and India and has the sovereign right to choose its partners.
“Our support, our help, our friendship with other countries also and with Maldives also is not with any conditions. We don’t force or we don’t expect that we will support you for this, but then you should not keep relations with that country,” he said.
Lodhi also reiterated Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue, stating that it remains an unresolved dispute that should be settled in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Pakistan were established in 1966. High-level exchanges have increased in recent years, including parliamentary visits and discussions on trade, tourism and other areas of cooperation.
