Police have publicised details of nine men arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 22-year-old woman and the sexual abuse and exploitation of minors on an island in the Upper South region.

All nine suspects were taken to court and remanded in custody after investigations that included a team sent from Malé. The cases were reported from an island under the jurisdiction of Upper South Police.

Authorities have released limited identifying information while protecting the identities of the victims, particularly the minors. Investigations continue into the circumstances of the alleged offences.

The cases form part of a series of recent reports involving sexual violence that have drawn public attention to law enforcement and child protection responses.

Police said they will pursue full legal action against those responsible once investigations are complete.
