The National Disaster Management Authority and the Maldives Police Service have agreed to integrate disaster management into police training programmes.
The discussions took place during a meeting between NDMA chief executive Hisan Hassan and Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed. Topics included improving coordination on risk reduction, enhancing the ability of officers nationwide to respond to emergencies, and strengthening available resources.
Officials said the collaboration supports the government’s broader goal of building a more resilient Maldives. Police already play a frontline role in many incidents, and formal training is expected to improve preparedness.
The agreement covers both urban and island settings, where response times and logistics can differ significantly. Further technical details on the training modules are expected to be developed in the coming months.
