The National Movement opposing the Rasmale' development has postponed its planned protest from 6 November to Friday, 13 November.
Former Home Minister Imran Abdulla, a leading figure in the movement, said the change gives more time for preparation and for participants from the atolls to travel after the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party's National Council passed a resolution critical of the project.
The movement has called for a public referendum and greater transparency over the commercial terms signed with UAE-based Eagle Hills for 500 hectares of reclaimed land at Fushidhiggaru lagoon.
Organisers said the government and the developer are under increasing public pressure. The original protest date had been set for 6 November.
The government has maintained that the project will proceed under Maldivian law and that foreign ownership of land remains prohibited.
