Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that keeping President Mohamed Muizzu in office represents a significant loss for the Maldivian people.

Speaking at a press conference in Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo in Addu City, Nasheed argued that the People's National Congress government has delivered no meaningful progress on the island over the past three years. He said no major projects have been completed and no sustainable industries or job opportunities have been created.

Nasheed pointed to the black-market exchange rate for the US dollar rising above MVR 23 and observed price increases of 20 to 30 percent in local shops. He claimed the country's usable foreign reserves are being depleted and may not cover two weeks of imports.

He described the government's approach as lacking direction, citing shifting proposals on tourist dollar exchange requirements that were later revised or abandoned. Nasheed said these policy reversals have contributed to economic uncertainty and higher costs for ordinary citizens.

The remarks form part of broader opposition criticism of the administration's economic management and development record.
