Former president Mohamed Nasheed has spoken against aspects of engagement with UAE-based developer Eagle Hills, according to reports.
Nasheed’s comments relate to ongoing discussions around large-scale projects involving the company. Eagle Hills is the developer selected for the major Rasmale waterfront and marina development.
The government has defended the commercial terms of the Rasmale agreement, citing expected revenue, job creation and the absence of state debt or tax concessions. Opposition figures have raised questions about ownership safeguards, revenue sharing and long-term control.
Nasheed, who has previously commented on foreign investment and land issues, continues to voice concerns about the scale and structure of such deals. The debate forms part of broader political discussion on major infrastructure partnerships.
Officials maintain that land remains under state ownership and that strict checks apply to property buyers.
