The government is preparing measures that would restrict heavy vehicles from operating on Male’ roads during certain hours of the day.

Economic and Transport Minister Mohamed Saeed told journalists that discussions with the business community on the proposal have been ongoing for approximately four months. The aim is to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow without placing an unreasonable burden on commercial operators.

Saeed said the ministry is seeking a practical solution that works for the majority of stakeholders. No final timetable or exact restricted hours have yet been announced.

The move forms part of broader efforts to manage traffic density in the capital, where limited road space and high volumes of commercial vehicles regularly create bottlenecks.
