The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a red alert covering areas from Kaafu Atoll to Laamu Atoll, effective from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm today, due to expected rough weather.

The alert warns of heavy rainfall, strong winds reaching up to 45 miles per hour in gusts, and rough sea conditions with wave heights between four and seven feet. Seas are expected to be particularly rough in the affected lagoon areas.

The service has advised residents and seafarers to exercise caution, noting that scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely in the coming days across various parts of the country.

This comes amid ongoing monsoon-related weather activity that has already led to flooding reports in some southern islands. Authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged the public to stay updated through official channels.

The red alert is part of standard procedures to protect lives and property during periods of severe weather.
