MDP opens candidacy for its 2026 internal election

Nomination forms are due on 25 October, and members must be registered by 20 October to run.

The Maldivian Democratic Party has opened candidacy for its 2026 internal election. Members can stand for seats on the party's People's Majlis lists for atolls, islands and cities, for council chair, deputy chair and secretary posts, and for the chairs of the women's and youth wings.

Candidates must be registered members by 2 pm on 20 October, and youth wing candidates must be between 18 and 31. Nomination forms must be submitted by 2 pm on Sunday, 25 October.

Each island with more than 500 party members elects two People's Majlis members, with a third for islands above 1,000 members. Each city constituency elects two.
