The Maldivian Democratic Party National Council has passed a resolution opposing the Rasmale' project with Eagle Hills.
The decision deepens an internal rift. Former President Mohamed Nasheed had declared full support for the project, warning that the party was drifting toward a political identity he no longer recognised.
The resolution signals a more confrontational stance against the government's flagship development. It sets the stage for potential street protests and continued legislative challenges.
The project involves a large waterfront and marina development on reclaimed land, with provisions for foreign residency under long-term leases.
Opposition to the deal has focused on transparency, land ownership rules and the length of the arrangements.
