The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has endorsed former council president Ali Shujau as its unopposed candidate for the by-election in V. Thinadhoo.
The endorsement means Shujau will contest the seat on the party’s ticket without an internal primary. By-elections for local council seats are held when a vacancy arises, and the Thinadhoo contest will determine representation for the island.
Shujau previously served as president of the Thinadhoo council. His selection reflects the party’s preference for a candidate with prior local government experience in the constituency.
The election date and the full list of other candidates, if any, will be confirmed by the Elections Commission. MDP has been active in recent local contests and continues to field candidates in atoll and island-level races.
