The Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade has introduced time-based restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles and goods-carrying transport in the Malé area.

Under the new rules, vehicles weighing more than 350 kilograms, including forklifts, trucks, cranes and trailers, are prohibited from operating on roads in Malé (except Boduthakurufaanu Magu), Hulhumalé, Sinamale Bridge and Hiyaa between 6:00 am and 8:30 am, and again between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.

The restrictions also apply near schools during opening and closing hours on school days. The ministry said the measures aim to make roads safer for pedestrians and other road users.

Authorities warned that violations will be dealt with under the Land Transport Act (Law No. 2026/16). The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to manage traffic congestion in the capital region.
