The Maldives has taken part in the 17th International Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting, engaging with counterparts on energy security, markets and the clean-energy transition.
Participation comes as the country faces higher fuel costs that have tripled energy subsidies this year and widened the projected fiscal deficit. Officials have repeatedly stressed the need to expand renewable capacity while managing the short-term impact of elevated global oil prices.
The forum provides a platform for producing and consuming countries to discuss challenges affecting supply, prices and investment. For a small island economy heavily dependent on imported fuel and tourism, such dialogue is relevant to both economic stability and long-term climate goals.
The Maldives has also recently presented credentials to IRENA, reinforcing its engagement with international energy institutions.
