Maldives Gas has announced temporary reductions in the quantity of cooking gas filled into cylinders, citing rising global prices and difficulties importing supplies to the Maldives.

The changes take effect on Saturday, 7 November 2026. Under the new arrangement, 10kg cylinders will contain 7kg of gas, 22kg cylinders will hold 14kg, and 45kg cylinders will be filled with 31kg.

The company said the price per kilogram remains unchanged. Customers will be charged only for the actual weight supplied at existing rates.

Maldives Gas described the measure as temporary and necessary to maintain continuous supply across the country while international market conditions remain challenging.

The firm noted that the government is advancing a bulk storage project intended to hold enough gas for three months of national demand. Once operational, the expanded capacity is expected to reduce reliance on frequent imports and provide a longer-term solution to supply disruptions.

Similar temporary reductions were introduced earlier in the year after Middle East developments affected energy markets. Officials have said storage expansion in the Greater Malé area and elsewhere forms part of broader efforts to improve energy security.
