An Indian national has been remanded for seven days after police arrested him for alleged theft while disguised in a niqab.
Shahul Yehaya Abdul Rajaku was approached by officers while wearing a face veil and carrying a bag. He attempted to flee the scene before being taken into custody.
The court ordered the remand citing the risk that, as a foreign national, he could leave the country to avoid prosecution. Theft is the most frequently reported crime to police this year, with 2,893 cases documented so far.
No further details of the alleged offence have been released.
