Former Home Minister and former Adhaalath Party President Imran Abdulla has said that President Mohamed Muizzu will be remembered as the most deceitful traitor in Maldivian history if the Rasmale' agreement is signed.
Imran made the remarks amid ongoing controversy over the project on the reclaimed Fushidhiggaru Falhu lagoon. On 21 September an agreement was signed without public tender to grant 500 hectares of land to Eagle Hills, a company linked to UAE billionaire Mohamed Alabbar, for 99 years with no upfront payment.
Imran described the President as a hypocrite and the most dishonest leader to hold office, claiming that plans were being made to settle people of other faiths. He said anyone familiar with the facts would view the deal as a betrayal of national interests.
The comments add to criticism from opposition figures and religious scholars over the terms and transparency of the Rasmale' project. The government has maintained that the agreement is an economic development measure.
