Kaafu Huraa council has reopened applications for housing plots after revising the allocation rules that govern how points are awarded.

The new council, which has a People’s National Congress majority, published amended procedures that change how applicants score for a share of the 150 plots of 1,500 square feet each. Under the revised system, an applicant loses 60 points if their spouse already holds a government or private plot, or owns more than 600 square feet of land or apartment space in Huraa.

Applicants who can prove they have lived in Huraa since birth now receive 35 points, up from the previous 30. The council said the changes are intended to prioritise families who live permanently on the island with their households.

Applications are open from 11 to 15 October 2026, with forms accepted each day between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Previously submitted forms remain valid, but scoring will follow the new rules. Anyone who submits a fresh form will have their earlier application cancelled and the new one assessed against the updated criteria, with the August 2025 announcement date used as the reference for record-clearing.

The previous council had last revised the rules in mid-2025 and opened a round of applications between late August and late September that year. The current process is the first under the new administration.
