Mohamed Saeed has ended a 35-hour hunger strike after receiving assurances from the Home Minister and the Prosecutor General.
Saeed had been protesting the failure of authorities to stop a serial harasser and drug user who had repeatedly disturbed residents in the Henveiru area. Officials pledged to investigate the case thoroughly and take decisive legal steps.
Saeed stated that he would only conclude the strike once a permanent solution was guaranteed. The protest drew attention to broader concerns about street-level disorder and the effectiveness of local policing responses.
Police have previously arrested individuals linked to similar public disturbances in the capital.
