The Ministry of Housing has calculated that approximately MVR 58 billion is needed to finish the full list of housing and related infrastructure projects announced by the government.
The figure covers land reclamation, apartment construction, and supporting utilities across multiple atolls and the Greater Malé region. Officials have said that only a portion of the required funding has been secured so far, and that phasing will be necessary.
The estimate has drawn attention because of the scale of the commitment relative to the national budget. Opposition members have asked for a clearer breakdown of which projects are fully funded and which remain contingent on future financing.
Housing remains one of the most frequently cited priorities for residents of Malé and Hulhumalé, where demand for affordable units continues to outstrip supply.
